Changes to Chapter Design Awards

In the past, the Chapter Design Awards were held in conjunction with the Annual Network Event. This year, the Board has decided not to hold a design competition while the structure of the design awards is revised and updated. Some of the changes the board is considering include:

  • Category Changes: Since so much design is now centered on issues such as Green Design and LEED Certification, the categories should reflect these changes. Possible categories are: Best Adaptive Reuse, Best Use of Recycled Materials, etc.
  • Economic Considerations: In these challenging economic times, many institutional, commercial and residential clients simply do not have the funds to do elaborate and costly projects. Consideration can be given to projects utilizing restricted budgets.
  • Judging: One opportunity the Board is considering is to invite ASID Members from adjacent Chapters to judge the competition. Both the Connecticut and New York City Chapters have expressed interest in participating in our Design Competition.

The Board would like input from the Chapter Members as to any changes the members would like to see in the design competition. If you have any questions regarding the future of the Design Awards or would like to offer input to the Board, you can contact Christine Vescio, President-Elect, at Christine@rdsid.com
