ASID Board of Directors

  Rita Carson Guest, FASID, President

A dedicated ASID leader and award-winning interior designer, Guest is president and design director of Carson Guest, a law office and corporate design firm in Atlanta. The firm recently was named the "2006 Southeast Commercial Designer of the Year" by the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center and in 2005 it was ranked as one of the "Top 25 Interior Design Firms" in the city by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Guest’s work has been published in a wide variety of design magazines, including Contract, Design Solutions, Design South and Interiors & Sources. She was chair of the ASID College of Fellows and a former member of the ASID Board of Directors. Guest also has been a chair or member of numerous other Society-level committees, including the ASID Awards Committee, ASID National Nominating Committee, ASID Appointments Committee and ASID National Examiners Committee. She is also a past president of the ASID Georgia Chapter.

  Bruce Brigham, FASID, President-elect

An award winning designer and dedicated ASID leader, Brigham practices retail design and brand development from his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He is principal of Retail Clarity Consulting, and maintains clients in the Unites States, Hong Kong and mainland China. Prior to his consultancy Bruce was principal, for 9 years, of Planet Retail Studios, an award-winning design-prototype and branding firm based in Seattle.  Bruce’s work has been published in numerous magazines, writing extensively on the subjects of retail and lighting design, brand development and ASID issues. Brigham has been an active ASID member for more than 20 years, serving with the Washington State chapter on the board and as president, twice serving on the ASID Board of Directors, and serving as member and chair of a number of national task forces and committees.

 

Suzan Globus, FASID, Past President

An award-winning, widely published designer, Globus is principal of Globus Design Associates, a Red Bank, N.J.-based interior design consultancy specializing in public, educational and museum libraries. She has served the Society as chair of the ASID Education, Training and Advisory Council and the ASID Legislative Advisory Council; member of the ASID Professional Development Task Force; director at large of the ASID Board of Directors; ASID representative to the NCIDQ Model Legislation Task Force; and a Society spokesperson on privacy issues. A past president of the New Jersey chapter, she is active in several community associations and advisory boards, and was appointed by the New Jersey governor to serve on the state’s first Interior Design Examination and Evaluation Committee.

  Bruce Goff, ASID

Since founding his firm Domus Design Group and joining ASID in 1984, Goff has been providing professional services to clients such as AT&T and Harrah’s Hotels while remaining active with the Society in a variety of ways. From serving as president of his local ASID chapter to leading the Nevada Interior Design Coalition, where he crafted the plans to pass that state’s interior design law, he continues to give back. In addition to working with his ASID chapter, Bruce has served several terms on the national education and legislative councils and as a chair or member of numerous other Society-level task forces and councils.


  Doug Hartsell, Industry Partner Representative to the Board

After practicing residential interior design in North Carolina for more than a decade, Hartsell transitioned to the trade showroom side of the interior design business, based at the Washington (D.C.) Design Center. Since 1983, Hartsell has worked with a variety of companies including Baker Knapp & Tubbs, Ligne Roset, Kittinger and Robert Allen/Beacon Hill. In 2003, he joined Duralee as national showroom sales manager. Hatsell manages sales and operations, staffing, and product and showroom merchandising for 11 Duralee corporate showrooms nationwide, working closely with ASID and its members.

 

 

Lisa Henry, ASID, LEED AP

A LEED Accredited Professional, Henry is the architecture and design manager for Knoll in the Denver region. She has also consulted with several Fortune 100 companies providing strategic workplace analyses and has published numerous articles on high-performance corporate work environments and green building strategies. A member of the ASID Student Advisory Council, Henry has been a member of other Society-level committees including the ASID Legislative and Codes Council and the ASID Foundation Development Council. An ASID Chapter Medalist recipient, Henry has been President of the ASID Colorado Chapter and the Colorado Interior Design Coalition. She is an interior design program advisor for the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and a past board member for the college’s foundation.

  Mary Knopf, ASID, LEED AP

A principal of ECI/Hyer Architecture and Interiors in Anchorage, Alaska, Knopf has been recognized on national and local levels as an award-winning interior designer, particularly on the firm’s notable sustainable design projects. Knopf has served nationally on the ASID Ethics Committee, currently as chair, and was president of the ASID Alaska Chapter for two terms. A recent inductee of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Athena Society, Knopf has been a board member and officer of several other local organizations, including the Alaska Professional Design Council, Anchorage Building Owners and Managers Association and the National Association of Women in Construction, as well as numerous volunteer organizations.

  Barbara Marini, ASID, IDEC

A well-regarded educator, Marini is the interior design program chair at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Detroit. She previously was the interior design program chair at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, and has owned her own interior design firm, Marini Interiors, since 1987. She most recently was a member of the ASID Legislative and Codes Advisory Council, chair of the ASID Student Advisory Council and member of the ASID Chapter Support Team. Active in the ASID Michigan Chapter, Marini has served the chapter as president, and been a member of its nominating committee and professional development committees.

  Patrick Schmidt, ASID, CST Representative to the Board

A dedicated member since joining the Society in 1991, Patrick has served on and chaired numerous committees with the ASID Indiana Chapter, as well as Schmidt serving as chapter president in 2004 – 2005. He has received several chapter awards, including Chapter Presidential Citations and Golden Apple Awards. Schmidt is also active on the Indiana Design Coalition board and continues to work for the passage of a state Title Act. Frequently published, Schmidt has been creating award-winning residential designs for more than 22 years.


  Linda Sorrento, ASID, LEED AP

A sustainable design advocate and longtime ASID volunteer, Sorrento is director of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) for the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington, D.C., and is an assistant professor at Northern Virginia Community College. Previously, she was a visiting professor at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and A&D manager for both Steelcase and Haworth. Sorrento is a member of the ASID Education and Training Advisory Council and was a member of the ASID Chapter Support Team and the ASID Communications and Knowledge Resources Council. She is a former president of the ASID Washington Metro Chapter and was a contributor to the ASID white paper, In the Open: How Design Can Protect Privacy.


  Teresa Sowell, ASID

An award-winning interior designer, Sowell is a corporate interior designer and principal facilities engineer with Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Ariz. She currently is a member of the ASID Foundation Board of Trustees and has served in a variety of capacities for the Society, including member of the ASID Development Council, ASID CST Representative to the Board of Directors, and chair and member of the ASID Chapter Support Team. Sowell also was president of the ASID Arizona South Chapter.
